'Lorem Ipsum' is nothing more than a traditional piece of latin text used by printers, typesetters and now, by web designers, publishers and authors as a place holder or filler. The advantage of using 'lorem ipsum' text is that it is copyright free (important!) and also non-emotive - i.e. it looks significant without being significant, and is unlikely to distract the viewer (reader?) from the design - so 'lorem ipsum' is ideal for filling blank space in a website template, for instance, without distracting from the design.
Lorem Ipsum is also sometimes described as: blind text, dummy content, filler text, greeked text, latin text, lipsum, mock-content and plain and simple - placeholder text.
